Bilastine

 CAT. No:-B920000

 CAS. No:-202189-78-4

Bilastine is chemically described as 4-[2-[4-[1-(2-Ethoxyethyl)-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl]-1-piperidinyl]ethyl]-alpha,alpha-dimethylbenzeneacetic Acid.  It's a novel molecule with molecular formula C28H37N3O3, molecular weight 463.62 g/mol.

Bilastine is a selective histamine H1 antagonist, discovered by the Spainsh firm FAES Farma and was approved by the European Union in 2010.

Bilastine is approved in the European Union for the symptomatic treatment of allergic conjunctivitis and urticaria.

Bilastine is a new second generation H1-antihistamine, recently approved for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria. It belongs to the piperidine class of antihistamines. It is an anti-allergic medication.

Bilastine is an "antihistamine medication" which is used to reduce allergic symptoms such as nasal congestion and urticaria(hives).

Bilastine is used to cure symptoms like sneezing, itchy nose, nasal secretion, nasal congestion and red streaming eyes and also the other forms of allergic rhinitis. Bilastine has an effectiveness similar to cetirizine, fexofenadine, and desloratadine.

Bilastine has a rapid reflux, approximately 1hr after ingestion with sustained action of more than 26 hours. While cetirizine 10 mg has almost a similar profile, fexofenadine 120 mg was only effective up to first 4 h after dosing.

Mechanisms:-

Bilastine is 84-90% bound to human plasma proteins. During allergic response mast cells undergo degranulation which releases histamine and other substances. By binding to and preventing activation of the H1 receptor, bilastine reduces the development of allergic symptoms due to the release of histamine from mast cells.

Bilastine, extreme dosage or side effects leads to experience abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, sore throat, nausea, cold-like nose symptoms,(or diarrhea (in children). Most of these side effects of BILASTINE do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time.

Bilastine is known to interact with antifungal medicine (Ketoconazole), antibiotic (Erythromycin), (Cyclosporine), and AIDS medicines (Ritonavir) It also interacts with alcohol and increases the chances of drowsiness.
